Grades Of Modern Leather Sofas Available

In the past, only the affluent persons could afford to own leather sofas. However, with the many different types available today almost anyone can enjoy the luxury of having a leather sofa in their living room. Due to the many different types and styles available buying a leather sofa may not be as simple as you think. Actually there are a couple of things that you will need to bear in mind like the grade and quality to help you in your decision.

Sofas can be found with different types of leather which will ultimately affect the price of the leather.

Natural Leather: There is the natural leather which is more commonly known as full aniline leather which has a very luxurious appeal. This type of leather is made from top grain and has not been treated in any way. As a result, of the high quality of grain used it tends to very expensive costing several thousands of dollars. On the hand due to the lack of treatment it is more easily stained and damaged than the other types.

Nubuck leather: This refers to modern leather sofa made from natural leather which has been brushed to create a suede-like and softer feel. As a result of this, the material tends to be absorbent, making this type of leather the hardest to maintain. Nevertheless, due to the fact that it is made from high quality grains, it too tends to be expensive costing several thousands of dollars.

Pull-up aniline leather: This  refers to natural leather with a special oil coating and wax to change how the leather looks as it gets older. This type of leather is also very costly and the special coating used allows the material to wear unevenly causing dark and light contrast to develop with time.

Semi-Aniline Leather: There is also semi-aniline leather which also has a special coating, but the coating in this case is more so for protecting the leather instead of improving its appearance. As a result of the coating it is more resistant to stains and tends to be more durable than natural leather itself.

Pigmented Leather: Finally there is pigmented leather which is dyed and polished to bring about a consistency in the colour. It too is very durable and is also easily maintained. As a result of the dye used the leather will maintain a uniform colour throughout its lifetime. These are normally made from split hide or bottom grain and hence tend to be more affordable costing a couple hundreds of dollars.

The type of leather sofa you choose should be based on your lifestyle and the purpose for which you are purchasing the sofa. Catnapper has a wide range of sofas which should be able to suit any lifestyle. If you are thinking about purchasing the sofa for an upscale office or upscale area, you may want to choose one of those made with top grains. However, if it’s for a home with pets and children the pigmented or semi-aniline would be best.
